PROSTATE CANCER PATIENTS FROM NOVOSIBIRSK CAN BE TREATED BY BRACHYTHERAPY METHOD

At the Department of Oncology and Radiotherapy of Novosibirsk Research Institute of Circulation Pathology named after Academician Meshalkin E.N., Ministry of Health, Russia, started implementing a method of brachytherapy for the treatment of prostate cancer. Anikeeva Olga Yurievna is the Head of Department. Doctors performed four operations under ultrasound. Novosibirsk colleagues were trained by Oschepkov V.N., MD, Radiologist of the Research Institute of Urology. The first implantations of microsources were a success, patients will be able to lead ordinary life in a couple of days. "The prospect of this high-tech method in the region is confirmed by FSBI "P.A. Herzen Moscow Oncology Research Institute" statistics. Just last year 616 patients with prostate cancer were registered in Novosibirsk. 52.2% of them - with localized stage I-II, the most suitable for brachytherapy,"- commented Kirill Mayorov, Bebig Director General, the exclusive supplier of microsources to the Russian medical centers.
