Operations for prostate cancer treatment using BEBIG company microsources were held in Samara.
On December 11, on the basis of the Samara Regional Clinical Oncology Center the first operations of brachytherapy were carried out using Russian radiation microsources produced by BEBIG LLC. The sources were implanted by Urologist Korotkov Valery together with MD, Associate Professor, Department of Radiology of the Tyumen State Medical University, Oschepkov Vasily. The operations were carried out in the framework of high-tech medical care program provided for the Russian citizens.

According to official statistics of the Association of oncologists of Russia there are more than 1,325 people registered with primary diagnosis of prostate cancer in 2014 in Samara region.

<з> “The number of patients with prostate cancer has been steadily increasing in Russia, the Samara region is not an exception. That is why the region is trying to rearrange the use of advanced and efficient technologies in the field of cancer treatment. Thanks to the support of BEBIG our clinic plans to launch low-dose-rate brachytherapy operations in full. We invite all men of the region to monitor their health and timely consult specialists for the diagnosis of cancer and get medical aid. Only at the early diagnosis of cancer, we can carry out an effective and low-trauma treatment for the patient”, - said the Head of the Department of Oncourology, Samara Regional Clinical Oncology Center, Gorbachev Andrei.

Low-dose-rate brachytherapy is used at the 1st and 2nd stage of prostate cancer - this method has been practiced in Europe and America for 30 years. In Russia, the low-dose-rate brachytherapy was included in the list of high-tech medical care, financed under the program of state guarantees of free medical care.

According to Kirill Mayorov, Director General of BEBIG, in Russia 27 public health centers successfully practice the treatment of prostate cancer by low-dose-rate brachytherapy. In 2016 BEBIG Company plans to ramp up production.

“Pursuing the production of iodine-125 microsources and promoting brachytherapy treatment, we want to give the opportunity to the male population of our country to benefit from this highly efficient method in the fight against cancer”, - Kirill Mayorov added.
