FIRST OPERATIONS ON PROSTATE CANCER BRACHYTHERAPY TREATMENT WERE HELD ON THE SHORE OF THE LAKE BAIKAL

On January 21, 2015 on the basis of State Budgetary Healthcare Institution “Regional Oncology Center,” Irkutsk, with the participation of BEBIG Company 2 brachytherapy operations were carried out for prostate cancer. The personnel of the Irkutsk Regional Oncology Center under the direction of Chief Physician, MD, Professor Dvornichenko Viktoria Vladimirovna, has been actively working to identify cancer at an early stage and applying the latest methods of treatment. The brachytherapy operation for prostate cancer was conducted by the medical team of oncourologists, radiologists and medical physicists of Irkutsk Oncology Center headed by a leading expert Ph.D. Oshchepkov Vasily Nikolayevich, Research Institute of Urology MH, the Russian Federation, who participated in the first brachytherapy operation for prostate cancer in Russia in the year 2000.

Radiologist Yegor V. Kovalev, specially trained in Germany, operated under his supervision in Irkutsk, State Budgetary Healthcare Institution "Regional Oncology Center". Director General of BEBIG LLC Mayorov Kirill noted that the new minimally invasive treatment for prostate cancer expands its geography to the East of the country. "It should be also noted that Russian microsources of iodine-125 were used during the operation," - said Mayorov K.V. - "they are not inferior in quality to foreign analogues and are produced by BEBIG LLC in Dubna, Moscow Region. The master-class was jointly organized by BEBIG Company, Irkutsk Regional Oncology Center and the non-profit partnership "Russian Association of brachytherapists".
